Chapel Hill, N.C. ----- University of North Carolina head coach John Bunting has been selected by CollegeFootballNews.com as its 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year.
Bunting (UNC '72) guided the Tar Heels to a 5-6 record in 2005, despite facing one of the nation's toughest schedules. Carolina posted two straight home wins over ranked opponents in 2005 for the first time since 1992. The Tar Heels downed No. 23 Virginia on Oct. 22 and No. 19 Boston College on Nov. 5. The Tar Heels were 4-2 at home and also defeated NC State on the road.
Carolina is 9-7 in Atlantic Coast Conference play over the last two seasons with wins over Miami, Boston College, Virginia and NC State (twice).
