North Carolina Notes

Leah Metcalf's three-pointer with 4:45 left in the game pushed her over the 1,000-point mark for her career. She is the 23rd North Carolina player to reach that milestone after finishing today's game with eight points and tallying 1,004 for her career.

Carolina's 10 blocks were a team season-high, and LaToya Pringle's six were an individual season-high.

Carolina advances to the 11th Sweet 16 in school history, the first since 2002. The Tar Heels will play Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz., on Saturday in a regional semifinal game.

George Washington Notes

Senior Jessica Simmons had a career-high seven steals, while sophomore Kenan Cole rebounded the ball eight times for a career-high.

Sophomore Corinne Turner tied her season-high with 10 points.

Senior Anna Montañana scored a season-low four points.

UNC forced 24 turnovers, which tied a season-high for George Washington.

The Colonials are 2-5 against ranked teams this year.
