An exceptional collection of sports memorabilia--including one of the best assortments of University of North Carolina basketball memorabilia assembled in one auction in recent years--will hit the auction block on May 3 as part of the Reece Holbrook Golf Classic.
No fewer than seven items signed by the entire 2005 national championship Tar Heel team will be auctioned, including a team-signed media guide, a team-signed basketball, a team-signed Daily Tar Heel from the day after the championship victory, and a pair of team-signed panoramic prints taken during the home victory over Kentucky this season.
The auction also features a selection of items from Carolina's legendary head coaches, featuring a game-used Smith Center bench chair signed by Bill Guthridge, Dean Smith, and Roy Williams.
For those bidders who prefer personal experiences over autographs, one of the highlights of the auction will be the opportunity for bidders to play golf with Carolina legends Dean Smith, Bill Guthridge, Roy Williams, and Brad Daugherty on May 4 at the Golf Classic.
Carolina players who have gone on to the pros in almost every sport are represented: the auction includes a gameworn and signed Mia Hamm United States soccer jersey, a gameworn and signed Julius Peppers Carolina Panthers jersey from the 2003 Super Bowl season, and items from numerous Tar Heels--including Antawn Jamison, Rick Fox, and George Lynch--in the NBA and major league baseball.
A very limited number of auction tickets--all bidders must have an auction ticket, which is the only way to bid on all auction items, including the golf experiences with the former coaches and players--are available for $25 apiece. To obtain an auction ticket or get more information on the auction, email Stephanie Williams.
Not all the items in the auction are Carolina-related: signed baseballs from a variety of major league baseball All-Stars are available, including Derek Jeter, Curt Schilling, and many more. If you prefer non-sports items, there will be an opportunity to bid on several non-sports items, including signed shoes and sunglasses from Oprah Winfrey's personal collection.
The auction, which will take place at the Marriott Courtyard on Highway 54, is part of the first Reece Holbrook Golf Classic, which is for the benefit of Reece Holbrook and the UNC Hospitals pediatric oncology department. The auction will be divided into two parts: a silent auction beginning promptly at 7 p.m. and a live auction, hosted by Mick Mixon, beginning at 8 p.m.
Foursomes for the event--which included a signed Roy Williams basketball for one member of each quartet and eight auction tickets--are sold out. A full catalog of all available auction items will be sent to pre-registered bidders and all golfers in advance of the auction.
