Carolina's Men's Golf Team In Second Place at NCAA East Regional

Kingston Springs, Tenn. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team stands in second place with six teams yet to complete first-round play in the NCAA East Regional. Carolina, which fired a 10-under-par score thus far, is one of the teams still on the course. Wake Forest leads the field of 27 teams with a 13-under 271 total on the first day. Play was suspended for just under two hours due to weather conditions and then play was later suspended due to darkness. The first round will be completed Friday morning beginning at 7:00 a.m. central time followed by the second round.
Georgia is in third place with a nine-under 275 total while Georgia State, another team yet to complete its first round, stands in fourth place at five-under-par. Alabama is in fifth place with a 280 total while Georgia Southern is sixth at 281 and Tennessee is seventh with a 282 total.
Kyle Reifers of Wake Forest leads all individuals after firing a six-under-par 65. Ross McGowan of Tennessee and Brendon Todd of Georgia are one stroke back at five-under 66. Dustin Johnson of Coastal Carolina is also at five-under, but has yet to complete his first round. Six players are tied for fifth place at four-under-par. Wake Forest's Sean Moore, Tennessee's David Skinns and Georgia Southern's Kurt Watkins all posted four-under 67 totals. The other three players who stand are four-under have yet to complete their first rounds - Carolina's Martin Ureta, East Tennessee State's Rhys Davies and Central Florida's Ben Leong.
While Ureta leads the Tar Heels at four-under, Kevin Silva and Ted Smith are just one shot back at three-under, Jonathan Jackson stands at even par and Doug Kingston is two-over.
The 54-hole event continues through Saturday and is being played at The Golf Club of Tennessee which features a par 71, 6,864-yard layout. The top 10 teams will advance on to the NCAA Championship to be played May 31-June 3 in Baltimore, Md.
