GREENSBORO, N.C. -- North Carolina forward Tyler Hansbrough, who averaged 22.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in two games, has been selected as the ACC Rookie of the Week. In earning the award for the fifth time this season the Polar Bluff, Mo., product had 20 points and nine rebounds in Tuesday's 64-61 win at Virginia Tech and a season-high 25 points and seven rebounds in Saturday's 81-70 loss to Miami.
On the week, the 6-9, 235-pound freshman made 12-of-20 from the floor and 21-of-23 from the free throw line.
Hansbrough's five ACC Rookie of the Week honors is one off the school record of six, set by Sam Perkins in 1980-81. Marvin Williams also won the honor five times last season.
Perkins is tied for second in ACC history with six ACC Rookie-of-the-Week honors with Virginia's Bryant Stith, Maryland's Joe Smith and Duke's Luol Deng. Kenny Anderson of Georgia Tech holds the ACC mark with 10 in 1989-90.
