Gymnastics Hosts William & Mary In First Meet At Home

Following a win on the road last Thursday at the George Washington Invitational, the North Carolina gymnastics team is ready to host its first meet of the season against William & Mary. The meet will be held at Carmichael Auditorium on Carolina's campus at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The Tar Heels faced William & Mary three times during the 2004 season and three times during the 2005, sweeping each competition. At the George Washington Invitational on January 15, 2005, Carolina beat the Tribe 190.85-181.80. Five days later, the Tar Heels traveled to Williamsburg where Carolina won 195.10-189.30. The final meet between Carolina and William & Mary was on February 19 in Chapel Hill, in which the Tar Heels outscored the Tribe 195.85-191.15.
Carolina enters the meet on Thursday with a record of 5-0 after winning the George Washington Invitational with a score of 192.475. William & Mary also competed in the meet finishing third with a score of 184.875. Junior Christine Robella led the team with wins in the all-around, floor exercise, and a first place tie with Senior Courtney Bumpers on vault. In addition to her first place tie on vault, Bumpers had an equally impressive meet with a first place finish on uneven bars, a first place tie on balance beam with teammate Mikel Hester, and a second place finish in the all-around.
Thursday's meet will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Carmichael Auditorium.
