Carolina Finishes the Day in Second Place At Bank of Tennessee

JONESBOROUGH, TENN. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team is in second place after the first two rounds of the Bank of Tennessee at The Ridges Golf Tournament. The Tar Heels fired an eight-over 296 in the first round, putting them tied for 4th place with Wake Forest, behind East Tennessee St., Tennessee and TCU. The Tar Heels played even better in round two, shooting one-under 287 rising into second place behind East Tennessee St.
Carolina junior Barden Berry from Kinston N.C. shot a two-over 74 and a one-under 71 and is tied for 7th place to lead the Tar Heels. Sophomore Robert Riesen from Pinehurst, N.C. fired consecutive one-over 73's and is tied for 10th place. Sophomore David Holzworth from Chapel Hill, N.C. fired a 76, followed by a 72, and Senior Reid Darsie also from Chapel Hill, N.C. carded a 77, then a 71. Both are tied for 17th place. Senior Martin Ureta from Santiago, Chile shot a 73 followed by a 76 and is in 23rd place.
George Byran IV from South Carolina and Rhys Davis from East Tennessee St. are tied for the lead after each shot 71 and 69 in the first two rounds. They are both -3 for the tournament. Two strokes back in third is Jon McLean from TCU, who shot 70 and 72.
East Tennessee St. fired consecutive 291's and leads the tournament. North Carolina trails by only one shot, shooting 296, then 287. Tennessee is two behind the lead after shooting 294 then 290. South Carolina and TCU are tied for 4th trailing by 10 strokes.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at The Ridges Golf and C.C. which features a par 72, 7,147-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com
