Carolina Golfer Martin Ureta Tied For Seventh Place

El Paso, Tex. - Martin Ureta, a senior on the University of North Carolina golf team, is tied for seventh place after two rounds of the 32nd annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic which is being played at the El Paso Country Club, a par 71, 6,837-yard layout. Ureta fired consecutive rounds of two-under-par 69 to finish the day with a four-under 138 total.
Luke List of Vanderbilt leads the field of 28 players with a 12-under 130 total after firing rounds of nine-under 62 and three under 68. List's 62 in the first round set the tournament record for 18 holes and that record was tied a short time later when Florida's Billy Horschel fired a 62 in the second round. List also tied the best opening 36-hole total with a 130 (62-68), joining Arizona's Ricky Barnes, who also opened with a 130 two-round total in 2000 (63-67).
Chris Kirk of Georgia is one stroke behind List in second place with a 131 total (65-66) while Florida's Horschel is in third place at 133 (71-62). A trio of players is tied for fourth place with 137 totals - East Tennessee State's Rhys Davies, Jacksonville's Russell Knox and Georgia's Brendon Todd.
Ureta. from Santiago, Chile, is deadlocked in seventh place with four other golfers - St. Mary's (Texas) Jamie Amoretti, Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin, UNLV's Jarred Texter and Lamar's Dawie Van Der Walt. Ureta, a two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer (2005 and 2006) and a 2006 third-team PING All-America, has won two collegiate titles. He has carded two top-10 finishes this fall, his top performance being a tie for third place at the International Collegiate played at St.Andrews in Scotland.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Tuesday at the El Paso Country Club. One Tar Heel has won this prestigious tournament as Davis Love, III was the champion in 1984.
