No. 2 Tar Heels Welcome Western Carolina Sunday

CHAPEL HILL --- North Carolina (9-0) takes a break from studying Sunday when the Tar Heels welcome Western Carolina at 2 p.m. at Carmichael Auditorium. Carolina has won nine straight to open the season for the second year in a row and the seventh time in school history after defeating Wofford 95-36 Thursday night. The Tar Heels are ranked No. 2 in the nation in both polls for the fifth straight week. Western Carolina is 5-4 coming off a 69-51 win over St. Joseph's last Sunday. Wednesday's game marks the fourth of five straight home games for UNC between Nov. 30 and Dec. 16.

WESTERN CAROLINA SERIES NOTES
North Carolina is 7-1 all-time against Western Carolina.
The Tar Heels and Lady Catamounts are meeting for the first time since 2001, when UNC won 100-44. That was the last time WCU allowed 100 points to an opponent.
Western Carolina's win in the series came in 1975, the only season during which the two teams have met twice. The Catamounts triumphed 92-72 in the only game in the series to be played in Cullowhee.
SCOUTING THE LADY CATAMOUNTS
Western Carolina is led by three players who average double-digit scoring - Monique Dawson (13.9 ppg), Lauren Powell (12.3) and Chevon Keith (11.3). Keith leads the team with 8.2 rpg.
The Lady Catamounts are coached by former Tennessee standout Kellie Harper. Harper is 32-38 in her third year at WCU.
Sunday's game will be the ninth of 10 for Western Carolina away from home. The Lady Catamounts played their opener against Auburn at home on Nov. 10 and will not host another game until welcoming Eastern Michigan on Dec. 30.
Western Carolina is the fourth and final Southern Conference opponent for UNC this season. The Tar Heels have already defeated Elon, UNC Greensboro and Wofford.
