Carolina's Martin Ureta On Watch List For Ben Hogan Award

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Martin Ureta, a junior on the University of North Carolina men's golf team, is one of 26 players on the watch list for the 2006 Ben Hogan Award announced by Bank of America, in cooperation with the Colonial Country Club, the Friends of Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The most prestigious award in men's college golf, the Hogan Award is presented annually to the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or junior college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during the last 12 months.
Ureta, a 2005 PING All-America honorable mention and All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer, was the runner-up at last summer's U.S. Amateur Public Links. He captured the individual championship at the Adams Cup of Newport last fall, the second collegiate title of his career. Ureta carded three additional top-20 finishes. He tied for seventh place at the VCU/Mattaponi Springs Shootout, tied for 12th place at the Coca-Cola Duke Golf Classic and tied for 16th at the Bank of Tennessee at The Ridges Intercollegiate. The Tar Heels tee off their spring season this Sunday through Tuesday at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Hogan Award selection committee will announce 10 semi-finalists on March 29 and name three finalists on May 2. The three finalists will attend the Hogan Award banquet on Saturday, May 13, at Colonial Country Club, the Saturday prior to the Bank of America Colonial, with the recipient announced that evening.
