Gymnasts Dominate William & Mary On The Road

The University of North Carolina gymnastics team swept every event Sunday afternoon to beat William & Mary at their meet in Williamsburg, Virginia. Carolina recorded its second-highest total of the season to outscore the Tribe 194.700-190.950.
Senior Courtney Bumpers and Junior Christine Robella led the Tar Heels by finishing in the top two of every event that they competed in. Bumpers, who won the all-around with a score of 39.350, had a win and a season-high score on balance beam (9.900) and a first place finish on floor exercise. Bumpers also tied for second place with Robella on vault with a score of 9.825 and tied for second place on uneven bars, as well.
Robella, in addition to her second place tie on vault, finished first on uneven bars, finished second on floor exercise, and tied for second with teammate Claire Smith on balance beam. Smith's score of 9.775 on balance beam marked a season-high.
Freshman Jennifer Valby also had a strong meet, recording her first collegiate individual win on vault with a season-high score of 9.850.
The Tar Heels overall had a remarkable meet. On vault, they held the top four scores, had four of the top six scores on uneven bars, and held the top five scores on balance beam.
Carolina's final home meet of the season is against New Hampshire on Sunday, March 19 at 1 p.m. in Carmichael Auditorium.
