CHAPEL HILL -- The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team will hit the road again this weekend to face a pair of nationally-ranked opponents in Washington, D.C.
Carolina (7-2), ranked No. 5 this week in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll, will play at No. 4 Georgetown (6-1) on Friday at 3:45 p.m. The Tar Heels will face No. 16 Stanford (5-3) on Sunday at 1 p.m. on the Georgetown campus in Washington, D.C.
Carolina has won four consecutive games, including Atlantic Coast Conference wins over Virginia Tech and No. 5 Virginia on the road two weeks ago. Last weekend, UNC beat Ohio State and No. 16 Penn State at the ACC/American Lacrosse Conference Challenge in College Park, Md.
The Tar Heels have been led this season by a group of upperclassmen that includes junior goalkeeper Kristen Hordy. Hordy leads the ACC with a save percentage of 57.6 and a goals-against average of 7.09 goals per game and is second in the conference with 8.44 saves per game. The Carolina defense has held its opponents to an ACC-low 65 goals this season, a goals-against average of 7.22 through nine games.
