Carolina Claims Third In Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, FLA.-- The North Carolina men's golf team concluded their season-opening tournament Tuesday by finishing in third place in the Seminole Intercollegiate.
On the final round, the Heels tallied a four-under 284, only one stroke off their score from the opening round. The 284 team total was the best score for the field in the final round, matched only with NC State who finished one stroke ahead of Carolina at six-under for the tournament. Coastal Carolina pulled ahead of second-round leader East Tennessee State to finish atop the leader board at 13-under, while East Tennessee State fell to fourth.
Carolina's Martin Ureta fired a 72 on the final round that gave him a third place finish for the spring opener. Going into the final round of play, Ureta held a one stroke lead on NC State's Stephen Lewton, but Lewton scored a five-under 67 that put him into a tie with Coastal Carolina's Dustin Johnson atop the leader board at 13-under. After a playoff, Lewton claimed the championship while Johnson wound up in second.
Tar Heel Barden Berry turned in a second-consecutive par score to land him in a tie for 12th. Jonathan Jackson of Carolina catapulted up the standings from 45th to 17th after a five-under 67 on the round- a final round score shared only with the tournament's winner Lewton. Robert Riesen and Ted Smith finished their final round with a 77 and 73 respectively.
Carolina will continue its spring season March 18th as they travel to Statesboro, Georgia to participate in the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational.
