Tar Heel Men's Golf Team In First Place At International Collegiate

ST. ANDREWS, SCOTLAND - The University of North Carolina men's golf team fired a nine-under-par 279 and grabbed the first-round lead of the International Collegiate. The Tar Heels hold a six-stroke lead over Stirling which stands in second place at three-under 285. Coastal Carolina is third at two-under 286 while Wake Forest is fourth at 287.
Tar Heel sophomore Robert Riesen, from Pinehurst, N.C., fired a five-under 67 after carding birdies on seven of his last eight holes. Riesen is tied with Gordon Yates of Stirling. Carolina senior Martin Ureta, from Santiago, Chile, and sophomore Barden Berry, from Kinston, N.C., both carded two-under 70 and are deadlocked in fourth place with five other players. Reed Darsie, a senior from Chapel Hill, carded an even par 72 and is tied for 16th place while sophomore David Holzworth, also from Chapel Hill, posted a 78 and is tied for 51st place.
Six other Tar Heel players competed as individuals. Josh Moore, a junior from Cary, N.C., fired a one-under 71 and stands in a tie for 11th place. Junior Ryan Holler, from Morehead City, N.C., and sophomore Chase MacFarland, from Savannah, Ga., both carded one-over 73s to tie for 19th place. Freshman Michael Sedacca carded a 76 and is tied for 46th place while another freshman, Philip Chauncey, from Durham, N.C., shot 80 and is tied for 58th and Wallace Palmer, a junior from Augusta, Ga., posted an 82 to tie for 61st place.
