Chapel Hill, N.C. - North Carolina men's golf coach John Inman announced Wednesday the signing of two of the state's top golfers, Kevin O'Connell from Cary, N.C. and Henry Zaytoun III from Raleigh, N.C.
O'Connell, a 2004 American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) All-America from Green Hope High School, captured two titles during his junior career. He won the 2005 Charles Tilghman Junior Championship and the 2004 AJGA Richmond Junior Open. He was the runner-up at the 2006 Scott Robertson Memorial Junior Golf Tournament and finished third at the 2005 North and South Junior. O'Connell played in the 2004 United States Junior Amateur, advancing to the round of 16.
Zaytoun, who plays for Ravenscroft School, captured the 2005 Donald Ross Junior Championship. He qualified for the 2006 U.S. Amateur and shot a 61 last season at a tournament at North Ridge Country Club. Zaytoun finished fifth at the 2005 AJGA Dunlop Carolina Junior and carded four additional top-15 junior finishes. He placed seventh at the 2006 Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic, finished eighth at the 2005 North and South Junior, finished ninth at the 2005 AJGA Golf Pride Junior Classic and placed 14th at the 2006 AJGA Golf Pride Junior Classic.
"We are extremely proud that these two great players from the state of North Carolina chose our golf program here in Chapel Hill," says Inman. "Both Henry and Kevin are very polished and accomplished players and I think they will make an immediate impact on our team."
