Eight Football Players Earn December Degrees

Chapel Hill, N.C. ----- Eight North Carolina football players received their diplomas at the annual December commencement ceremony at the Dean E. Smith Center last month. Ronnie McGill, Patrick Marsh, D.J. Walker, Jacoby Watkins, David Wooldridge, Victor Worsley, Brian Chacos and Kendall High were honored.
McGill, a 5-11, 220-pound tailback from Clover, S.C., finished his career 10th all-time at Carolina with 2,393 rushing yards. This season, he led the Tar Heels with 790 yards and seven touchdowns. He is eighth all-time at UNC with 24 rushing touchdowns.
Chacos, a preseason Lombardi Award candidate, started all 12 games at offensive tackle and was Carolina's top senior lineman. An Academic All-ACC selection in 2004, Chacos received a sixth-year of eligibility from the NCAA for 2006 and finished his UNC career with 35 starts.
D.J. Walker and Jacoby Watkins started at safety and cornerback, respectively, last season. Walker, a native of Pisgah Forest, N.C., was third on the team with 65 tackles, including 44 primary hits. Watkins a three-year starter, led the team with eight pass breakups and was sixth with 52 tackles. Watkins is a native of Laurinburg, N.C.
Victor Worsley of Battleboro, N.C., had his best season in 2006 after earning the starting middle linebacker spot. He tied for fourth on the team with 58 tackles, including 4.5 tackles for losses and 1.5 sacks.
David Wooldridge started at punter all four years from 2002-06. This season the Advance, N.C., native averaged 41.1 yards per punt and had a long of 61.
Patrick Marsh, a walk-on from Mooresville, N.C., earned a scholarship last semester and was Carolina's deep snapper on punts. High played for the Tar Heels from 2002-06 and saw time as a defensive tackle and offensive lineman.
