Taylor Among ESPN's Most Improved
October 29, 2007 | Football
Defensive end Hilee Taylor is among the top 10 most improved players according to ESPN The Magazine senior writer Bruce Feldman. Taylor is having his best season as a Tar Heel under the tutelage of Butch Davis and defensive line coach John Blake.
Known for his speed off the edge, Taylor is putting up big numbers this season, ranking second in the ACC and sixth in the country in sacks. He has had at least a half sack in every game this year except the season opener against James Madison. He had recorded one solo sack in each of the last three games.
Taylor is third in the league and 11th in the nation in tackles for losses. He has already set career-highs in both tackles for losses (12.5) and sacks (8.0). With eight sacks, he now ranks eighth on UNC's single-season sack list and can move into a tie for fifth with his next sack.
Taylor, who now has at least one tackle for loss in seven straight games, owns 16.5 career sacks. He is 3.5 sacks behind William Fuller (1980-83) for fifth on the Tar Heels' career list.
