No. 7 Tar Heels Host WNIC This Weekend

CHAPEL HILL --- North Carolina (3-0) welcomes Coppin State and Syracuse to Chapel Hill this weekend for the three-day Women's National Invitational Championship at Carmichael Auditorium. UNC will face Coppin State on Friday at 7 p.m., with the Eagles taking on Syracuse Saturday afternoon at 3:30. The hosts will be back in action on Sunday to meet the Orange at 2 p.m. Carolina is coming off a 98-53 win over Elon on Tuesday night. Coppin State enters the weekend 2-1 after a 75-43 win over UMBC on Wednesday, while Syracuse opens its season this weekend. UNC is ranked No. 6 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll and No. 7 in the AP poll, while Coppin State and Syracuse are unranked.

COPPIN STATE SERIES NOTES
North Carolina is 1-0 all-time against Coppin State.
The only meeting in the series came in the first round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels defeated the Eagles 97-62 in the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill.
SYRACUSE SERIES NOTES
North Carolina is 2-0 all-time against Syracuse.
The Orange came to Chapel Hill early in the 1998-99 season, falling to UNC 85-68 on Nov. 17.
Carolina traveled to northern New York to open the 2000-01 season. After dropping their opener at Buffalo, the Tar Heels defeated Syracuse 81-68 on Nov. 19.
NOTING THE EAGLES
Coppin State is 2-1 on the season after a 75-43 home win over UMBC on Wednesday.
The Eagles are the three-time defending regular-season champions of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. After back-to-back NCAA Tournament trips in 2005 and 2006, Coppin State became the first MEAC team to win a Division I postseason game with a victory over St. Joseph's in the WNIT in 2007.
CSU returns three starters, including leading scorers Rashida Suber and Shalamar Oakley, from last year's team that won a school-record 25 games.
NOTING THE EAGLES
Syracuse opens its season this weekend in the WNIC.
The Orange returns all five starters from last year's squad that finished 9-20.
Syracuse senior center Vaida Sipaviciute attended the Patterson School in Lenior, N.C. UNC sophomore Martina Wood also attended the Patterson School for one year.
