No. 15 Tar Heels Finish Twelfth At Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational

STATESBORO, GA. - Carolina came off a second-round 293 with a 301 in Sunday's final round to finish in twelfth at the Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational held at the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia. Martin Ureta again shot an even 72 and finished at one-over for the tournament in 11th. Ureta turned in two birdies and two bogeys apiece on the front and back in Sunday's round as he scored the best round for the Tar Heels on the day.
Robert Riesen, last year's individual runner-up, owned Carolina's second-best final round after carding a 75 to wind up at six-over. Last year, Riesen finished at seven-under. Following Riesen was Barden Berry who finished at 14-over with a 78 on Sunday. Reed Darsie and Josh Moore rounded out the field for Carolina finishing at 18-over. After a first-round 82, Moore rebounded with two consecutive rounds of 76.
Georgia retained their second-round lead and finished in first while also claiming the individual champion in Chris Kirk and the runner-up in Brendon Todd. Leading by 14 strokes entering Sunday, Georgia was able to withstand a final charge from Alabama who turned in a final-round 280 to finish in second six strokes behind Georgia. Eight strokes behind Alabama in third was Auburn, while South Carolina claimed fourth and Florida took home fifth.
Kirk, who finished at six-under, edged out teammate Todd by two strokes to earn the individual championship. Alabama's Michael Thompson emerged from 11th to third with a 69 to finish at three-under. Owning Sunday's best round was Bryan Jones of host Georgia Southern who carded a 66.
The Tar Heels will return to action next Sunday as they take part in the Hootie at Bulls Bay Invitational in Awendaw, South Carolina.
