CHAPEL HILL - Fifteen different players scored goals as the University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team exploded for 16 first-half goals and cruised to a 24-4 win over Longwood University on Sunday afternoon at Fetzer Field. The Tar Heels set school records for goals (24), margin of victory (22) and total points (37) during the victory.
With the win, Carolina improves to 13-2 this season. Longwood falls to 3-10. The start of the game was delayed 48 minutes due to lightning in the area.
After 11 UNC players scored in Friday's 15-5 win at Virginia Tech, 15 different Tar Heels scored in Sunday's win. Christina Juras (two goals, two assists), Meghan Clarke (two goals, two assists) and Lindsay Higgins (three goals, one assist) tallied four points apiece for Carolina.

Carolina's 24 goals scored eclipsed the previous school record of 23, set vs. Maryland-Baltimore County on Feb. 27, 2004. The 22-goal margin of victory breaks the old record of 19 set in 1996 versus Davidson and in 2001 against Virginia Tech. The prior UNC record for total points was 35 vs. Davidson in 1996.
Carolina held the Lancers scoreless in the first half and led, 16-0, at the break. The Tar Heels led 10-0 just over 15 minutes into the game at the 14:50 mark. Higgins scored 1:17 into the second half to make it 17-0 UNC before Cathleen Strain scored Longwood's first goal unassisted with 25:27 left to play.
Tar Heel junior defender Britta Williams scored Carolina's record-breaking 24th goal with under two minutes to play on her first career shot attempt.
The Tar Heels will return to action next weekend with their final game of the 2007 regular season, an Atlantic Coast Conference contest at Duke on Friday night. Carolina will host the ACC Tournament the following weekend, with action on April 26, 27 and 29 at Fetzer Field on the UNC campus.
