Reid Fronk Named Progress Energy Performer Of The Week

Reid Fronk hit three home runs in a pair of wins at NC State and Justin Ryncavage repeated as champion in the javlein at the prestigious Penn Relays to earn a share of the Tar Heel Athlete of the Week for April 23-29, 2007.
Fronk led the Tar Heels with a .389 (7-18) average and six runs scored on the week, as Carolina went 4-1. The junior from Charlotte had three home runs and four RBI, all in the last two games of the NC State series. Fronk tied Sunday's win over the Wolfpack with a solo home run in the seventh and put the Tar Heels in front for good with a two-run shot in the eighth. He finished with three RBI, three runs and his second career multi-homer game in the series-clinching win. Fronk is now batting .317 with six home runs and 33 RBI on the season. He leads the team with 51 runs scored and is second with 23 extra-base hits.
Fronk's leadoff triple against High Point Wednesday was his fifth of the season, good for a tie for sixth on the Tar Heels' single-season list.

Ryncavage, a senior from Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and the 2006 national champion in the javelin, claimed his second straight title in the college men's javelin at Penn. Ryncavage launched a 231-1 toss to take the event win, beating runner-up Matt Maloney from Tennessee by just more than two feet. Ryncavage, who currently holds the best mark in the nation this year with a 240-6 throw, also owns a Penn Relays title in the javelin from his high school days. Sophomore Adam Montague also turned in an impressive outing in the event, throwing 224-9 to place fourth, giving Carolina two-top five finishers.
KRISTEN TAYLOR

Freshman, Manlius, N.Y.
The freshman led all scorers with 10 goals and 12 points in three ACC Tournament games last weekend, leading the Tar Heels to the title game. Taylor had five goals and one assist in the first round against Virginia Tech, three goals and one assist in the semifinals against Duke and two goals in the finals against Virginia. Taylor was named to the All-ACC Tournament team for her efforts.
