Greensboro, Ga. - The University of North Carolina struggled coming out of exams and carded an eight-over-par 296 followed by a two-over 290 for a 10-over 586 total and is in 12th place after two rounds of the Linger Longer Invitational.
Top-ranked Georgia tops the 15-team field with a 17-under 559 total after firing a blistering 15-under 273 and a two-under 286. Florida State is three strokes back in second place with a 14-under 562 total after rounds of 283-279. Georgia State is in third place with a 564 total while Tennessee-Chattanooga is fourth at 570, Georgia Southern is fifth at 572 and Alabama is sixth with a 573 total.
Sophomore Robert Reisen, from Pinehurst, N.C., was the low Tar Heel tying for 37th place with a 145 total after rounds of 76-69. Reed Darsie, a senior from Chapel Hill, is one stoke back with a 146 total in a tie for 40th place after shooting a one-over 73 in each of the first two rounds. Senior Martin Ureta, from Santiago, Chile, posted a 150 total with rounds of 78-70 and is tied for 50th place. David Holzworth, a sophomore from Chapel Hill, carded rounds of 72-80 for a 152 total and is tied for 61st while Barden Berry, a junior from Kinston, N.C., posted a 153 total after rounds of 75-78 and is tied for 65th.
Four players are deadlocked in a tie for the individual lead with seven-under 137 totals - Jonathan Hodge of Tennessee-Chattanooga (69-68), Chris Kirk of Georgia (65-72), Derek Oakey of Georgia State (72-65) and Ian Rochester of Memphis (70-67). Louisville's Derek Fathauer and Florida State's Seath Lauer are one shot back at six-under 138 in a tie for fifth place.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Monday at Reynolds Plantation (Oconee Course), a par 72, 7,393-yard layout. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.
