UNC Men's Golf Team Moves Up To Eighth At NCAA East Regional

ALPHARETTA, GA.-- After a disappointing first round, the University of North Carolina men's golf team came to life and fired a two-under-par 286 in the second round of the NCAA East Regional. The Tar Heels jumped from 19th place all the way up to eighth place with a 591 total going into the final round of the 54-hole event played at The Golf Club of Georgia, Lakeside Course, which features a par 72, 7,017-yard layout.
Carolina was one of only three teams to shoot under-par in the second round. Three Tar Heels carded sub-par rounds. Senior Reed Darsie fired a four-under 68 while sophomore David Holzworth carded a two-under 70 and senior Martin Ureta shot one-under 71. Ureta, from Santiago, Chile, is tied for 11th place with a 145 total. Darsie, from Chapel Hill, is not far back in a tie for 20th place with a 146 total. Holzworth, also from Chapel Hill, tallied a 148 total and is tied for 34th place while junior Barden erry is tied for 71st with a 152 total and sophomore Robert Riesen, from Pinehurst, N.C., posted a 155 total and is tied for 90th place.
Top-ranked Georgia leads the field of 27 team with a two-under 574 total after firing an even-par 288 in the second round. Florida fired a three-under 285 to move up to second place while Auburn is third with a 577 total, Georgia Tech is fourth at 578 and Duke is fifth with a 581 total.
Cameron Tringale, a sophomore from Georgia Tech, held on to the individual lead after firing a two-under 70 for a seven-under 137 total. Brendan Tood of Georgia is two strokes back in second place with a 139 total after carding a three-under 69. Two players are tied for third place with 142 totals - Florida's Billy Horschel and Georgia's Chris Kirk. A trio of players is tied for fifth place with 143 totals - Georgia Tech's Chesson Hadley, Auburn's Patton Kizzire and Jacksonville State's Bryan Rozier.
The final round will be played Sunday beginning at 7:00 a.m. Live scoring is available on TarHeelBlue.com and Golfstat.com. The top 10 teams and top two individuals not on those 10 teams advance on to the NCAA Championship to be played May 30-June 2 at the Golden Horseshoe, Gold Course, in Williamsburg, Va.
