*Midfield Presence: All of Carolina's eight first-half goals came from members of the midfield. Sean Burke, Ben Hunt, and Shane Walterhoefer all provided two goals each, and Nick Tintle and Sean Delaney added one apiece as well.
*Eight players now with at least 10 goals this season:
With goals scored by Sean Delaney (one) and Sean Burke (two), eight different Tar Heel players scored at least 10 goals each this season. A year ago the Tar Heels had only five players in double figures in goals.*Shane Walterhoefer nets first goals of the 2007 season:
After winning the face-off, Walterhoefer took the ball straight to the goal on two different occasions this game to capture his first goals in 2007 as a Tar Heel. Walterhoefer's goals came only eight seconds apart and the second one put the Tar Heels ahead 6-1 with 14:55 to play in the first half. Walterhoefer scored three goals as a freshman in 2006.*Bart Wagner's scoring streak: Sophomore attackman Bart Wagner extended his scoring streak to 28 matches. He is tied for the 10th longest streak in the nation. Wagner had an assist in the match.
*Zimmerman's role in goal: Sophomore goalkeeper Grant Zimmerman finished with 10 games in the 2007 season during which he recorded at least 10 saves. He had 13 Sunday, two short of his career high
*Walterhoefer facing off:
This game marked the 11th time this season in which Shane Walterhoefer has won 14 or more face-offs in a game. He has now broken the record for most face-offs won in a season in UNC history, with a total of 221. He broke the record of 219 set by Kevin Frew in the 1994 season.*Walterhoefer leads team in ground balls: Face-off specialist Shane Walterhoefer led Carolina in ground balls this season, with a total of 113. Walterhoefer's 113 ground balls are the fourth most in a season in UNC history. Jude Collins had 160 ground balls in 1996, Kevin Frew had 143 ground balls in 2004 and Jude Collins scooped up 130 ground balls in 1995.
*NCAA tournament record:
Carolina now holds an overall record of 25-18 in the tournament. Their presence in the NCAA quarterfinals was a first since an appearance by the 2004 team. It was only the second time since 1996 that the Tar Heels had advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
