Golfer Kevin O'Connell ties for 13th at Dixie Amateur

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Two University of North Carolina men's golfers posted top-30 finishes at the 2008 Dixie Amateur. Freshman Kevin O'Connell tied for 13th place while Henry Zaytoun III, also a freshman, tied for 28th place.
The 72-hole event was played at Palm Aire Country Club in Pompano Beach, Fla., which features a par-72 layout. The first two rounds were played on both the Oaks and Cypress courses while the final two rounds took place on the Oaks course. The field of 234 players was cut to the top 63 players after the second round.
O'Connell, from Cary, N.C., finished with a 292 total, nine strokes behind champion David Lingmerth, who carded a 283 total. O'Connell fired a two-under-par 70 in the final round after previous rounds of 79-70-73. Zaytoun, from Raleigh, N.C., fired a three-under 69 in the final round for a 296 total. He carded scores of 77-75-75 in the previous three rounds.
Three members of the Tar Heel men's golf team were named to Carolina's Dean's List following the fall semester - Barden Berry, a senior psychology major from Kinston, N.C.; Josh Moore, a senior business administration major from Cary, N.C.; and Henry Zaytoun III, a freshman from Cary.
