Jonesborough, Tenn. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team placed sixth, while Coastal Carolina claimed the crown at the 11th annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges. Carolina carded a two-over par 290 in the final round to finish 19-over par.
Carolina Senior Robert Riesen, of Pinehurst, N.C., finished the tournament tied for ninth place at one-over 217. Riesen fired a three-under par 69 on the third day of play. Freshman Jack Fields, from Southern Pines, N.C., carded a three-over 75 on the final day of play. Fields' thee-day total of 221 put him in a tied for 25th place. Kevin O'Connell, a sophomore from Cary, N.C., tied for 30th place at six-over after shooting an even par 72 on Sunday. Junior David Holzworth, a native of Chapel Hill, N.C., fired a 74 in the third round and finished in a tie for 37th place at eight-over 224. Philip Chauncey, a sophomore from Durham, N.C., finished in a for 60th place at 15-over 231.
East Tennessee State finished one stroke behind the Coastal Carolina in second place. Wake Forest finished in third and NC State took fourth place.
Darren Blair of NC State captured the individual crown. Blair fired a 70 in the final round and finished with a three-day total six-under par 210. Coastal Carolina's Zack Byrd, East Tennessee State's Rhys Enoch, Dustin Groves of Wake Forest and UAB's Zack Sucher took second with a score of 215. Three players finished the tournament at even par for sixth place.
The 54-hole Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate featured a par-72, 7,147-yard course.
