North Carolina football lettermen John Dunn and Joe Dailey have recently landed graduate assistant coaching positions at LSU and Buffalo, respectively. Dunn is headed to Baton Rouge to tutor the offensive line of the defending national champion Tigers. In Buffalo, Dailey is reunited with his former position coach at Nebraska, Turner Gill, who is in his second year as the Bulls head coach.
Dunn worked at UNC for the last four seasons as a video assistant (2004-05) and as a graduate coaching assistant on the offensive side of the ball (2006-07). He walked on at Carolina in 2001 and played three seasons before his career was cut shorty by a neck injury. A native of Hendersonville, N.C., Dunn graduated from UNC with a degree in exercise and sports science.
"To continue my coaching profession at LSU is a great opportunity," said Dunn. "Coach Davis and the Carolina coaching staff helped me learn quite a bit this year and I'm appreciative of everything North Carolina has done for me during my career."
Dailey, who played for four different coaches and five different offensive coordinators during his college career at Nebraska and North Carolina, always professed a desire to enter the coaching profession. He transferred to UNC from Nebraska in 2005 and played one season at quarterback and one season at wide receiver. In 2006, he started seven games at QB and threw for 1,316 yards and seven touchdowns. Last year, he caught two passes for 38 yards.
"I learned a lot at North Carolina," said Dailey. "I really believe in what Coach Davis is doing and I think he'll get the program turned around."
Dailey will work with the offensive staff, which also includes former Tar Heel letterwinner Allen Mogridge as OL coach.
