Tar Heel Golf Team Finishes 12th At General Hackler Championship

The University of North Carolina men's golf team carded a 923 total and finished in 12th place of the General Hackler Championship played at the TPC of Myrtle Beach. The Tar Heels posted a 307 total in the final round. Wake Forest fired a four-over-par 292 in the final round to come from behind and capture the team championship with an 897 total.
Freshman Kevin O'Connell, from Cary, N.C., led the Tar Heels with a 229 total and a tie for 27th place after firing a three-over-par 75 in the final round. Another freshman, Henry Zaytoun from Raleigh, N.C., shot 79 in the final round for a 234 total to tie for 44th place. Barden Berry and David Holzworth both tied for 49th place with 235 totals. Holzworth, a sophomore from Chapel Hill, fired a three-over 75 on Monday while Berry, a senior from Kinston, N.C., shot 78. Senior Reed Darsie, from Chapel Hill, carded an 81 in the final round for a 242 total and tied for 63rd place.
Derek Fathauer of Louisville fired an even par 72 in the final round to capture the individual title with a one-over 217 total. He finished two strokes ahead of Augusta State's Henrik Norlander who carded a one-over 73 in the final round for a 219 total. Nicolas Geyger of Tulsa finished in third place with a 220 total after posting a 74 on Monday. Casey Clendenon of Lamar and Michael Schachner of Duke tied for fourth place at 221.
Florida was the runner-up in the team race with a 900 total after firing a 298 in the final round. Duke finished in third place, one stroke behind the Seminoles, at 901 while host Coastal Carolina finished fourth with a 903 total and Louisville finished fifth at 906.
The 54-hole event was played at the TPC of Myrtle Beach which features a par 72, 6,950-yard layout. The Tar Heels return to action this Friday through Sunday at the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational in Statesboro, Ga.
