Tar Heel Golf Team Is Fifth At Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. -
The University of North Carolina men's golf team fired a two-over-par 290 in the first round of the Seminole Intercollegiate and stands in fifth place. Mississippi and host Florida State both fired three-under 285 to share the lead of the 12-team event. Auburn and Virginia are tied for third place at two-under 286.
Carolina sophomore David Holzworth, from Chapel Hill, led the Tar Heels firing a one-under 71 and is tied for ninth place. Freshman Kevin O'Connell, from Cary, N.C., was close behind with an even par 72 and a tie for 18th place. Barden Berry, a senior from Kinston, N.C., was another stroke back at one-over 73 in a tie for 25th place. Senior Reed Darsie, from Chapel Hill, carded a two-over 74 and is tied for 37th while freshman Henry Zaytoun, from Raleigh, N.C., posted a three-over 75 and is tied for 45th.
Jonas Blixt of Florida State and Steven Rojas of Virginia are tied for the individual lead after both players fired a four-under 68. Six players are bunched up in a tie for second place at two-under 70.
The 54-hole event continues through Tuesday at Golden Eagle Country Club which features a par 72, 7,041-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
