North Carolina Men's Golfers Hang On To Ninth Place at River Landing Intercollegiate

WALLACE, N.C. - The North Carolina men's golf team carded a nine-over-par 297 total on Saturday afternoon to maintain their ninth-place position at the River Land Intercollegiate, bringing their total score to an 18-over-par 594 at the conclusion of the second round.
Freshman Kevin O'Connell fired a three-over-par 75 in the second round for a two-under-par 142 total. O'Connell, of Cary, N.C., is currently tied with Houston's Jordan Irwin in fifth place.
Tied for 33rd is Henry Zaytoun III, a freshman from Raleigh, N.C., who carded a two-over-par 74 for a five-over-par 149. Junior Robert Riesen, of Pinehurst, N.C., improved his first-round score by four strokes to finish the day with a one-over-par 73. He is currently tied for 42nd with a six-over-par 150. Senior Barden Berry, of Kinston, N.C., and junior Chase MacFarland, of Savannah, Ga., are tied for 56th with a nine-over-par 153
Competing as individuals are North Carolina's Reed Darsie and David Holzworth who both fired an even 72 in the second round. Darsie is currently tied for 10th place with a one-over-par 145. Holzworth is tied for 33rd with fellow teammate Zaytoun with a five-over-par 149 total. Neither Darsie nor Holzworth's scores will be counted towards North Carolina's team score.
Wake Forest's Webb Simpson continues to lead the tournament with a five-under-par 139. One stroke behind Simpson in second place is NC State's Kent Copeland and Duke's Michael Schachner with a four-under-par 140. Florida State's Jonas Blixit is in fourth with a three-under-par 141.
Host team NC State, who finished the first round in fifth, jumped to the top spot after carding a two-under-par 286 in the second round. NC State is tied with Duke with a two-under-par 574 total. Wake Forest ended the day with a six-over-par 294 to land seven strokes behind the leaders in third place. After carding a two-over-par 290 in the second round, Memphis entered the top five with a six-over-par 582 total followed by Florida State in fifth with a seven-over-par 583.
The River Landing Intercollegiate is being played in Wallace, N.C. on the par 72, 7,112 yard Landing Course and will resume Sunday morning. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
