Tar Heel Golf Team Moves Up To Sixth Place At River Landing Intercollegiate

The University of North Carolina men's golf team carded a five-under-par 283 in the final round of The River Landing Intercollegiate to move up to sixth place with a 13-over 877 total. Duke topped the 15-team field with a 13-under 851 total after firing an 11-under 277 on Sunday.
Senior Barden Berry and junior Chase MacFarland led the Tar Heels in the final round as both fired two-under-par 70s and both finished with 223 totals to tie for 45th place in the individual race. Freshman Henry Zaytoun III, from Raleigh, N.C., fired a one-under 71 and posted a 220 total and tied for 30th place. Robert Riesen, a junior from Pinehurst, N.C., shot even-par 72 and finished at 222 to tie for 40th. Freshman Kevin O'Connell carded a two-over 74 on Sunday to finish with an even-par 216 total and a tie for 11th place. Carolina's highest finisher was senior Reed Darsie, from Chapel Hill, who tied for fifth place while playing as an individual. Darsie fired a two-under 70 in the final round for a one-under 215 total. Also playing as an individual was David Holzworth, a sophomore from Chapel Hill, who carded a one-over 73 on Sunday to finish with a 222 total to tie for 40th place.
Host NC State was the runner-up in the team race, finishing with a four-under 860 total, nine strokes behind the Blue Devils. Memphis finished in third place with an even-par 864 total. Wake Forest finished fourth at 868 while Florida State was fifth at 870, seven strokes ahead of the sixth-place Tar Heels.
Michael Schachner of Duke and Webb Simpson of Wake Forest concluded regulation play tied with seven-under-par 209 totals after Schachner fired a three-under 69 on Sunday while Simpson posted a two-under 70. Schachner birdied the first playoff hole to capture the individual title. Jonas Blixt of Florida State and Kent Copeland from NC State tied for third place at five-under 211. Six players tied for fifth place with 215 totals - Carolina's Reed Darsie, Duke's Matthew Pierce, Maryland's Donnie Shin, Memphis' Robbie Greenwell and NC State's Darren Blair and Matt Hill.
