CHAPEL HILL - LaToya Pringle averaged 16 points and 8.3 rebounds in three women's basketball wins and Greg Little rushed for 154 yards and the game-winning touchdown in overtime to earn the University of North Carolina's TAG Heuer Most Valuable Performers against Duke for 2007-08.
The TAG Heuer MVPs represent the finest performances by Carolina student-athletes in the annual Carlyle Cup. UNC won the eighth annual competition against the Blue Devils, 18-8. The Tar Heels have won three times and tied once in the last four years of the event that matches the two schools in 23 different sports.
Pringle, a senior forward from Fayetteville, N.C., led the Tar Heels to a three-game sweep over the Blue Devils. She had 18 points and 11 rebounds in a 93-76 win at Duke, 16 and eight in the 82-51 win at Carmichael Auditorium and 16 and six in UNC's 86-73 win in the ACC Tournament championship game. Pringle shot 52.4 percent from the floor and made 25 of 29 free throws, an astounding 86.2 percent.
Little, a freshman from Durham, N.C., made just his second start of the season at tailback in the season finale against Duke. He had 26 carries for 154 yards, caught the game-tying touchdown pass in the fourth quarter and won the game with a 25-yard dash on UNC's first offensive play in overtime. It was Carolina's first 100-yard rushing performance of the season.
