Carolina Golfers In 16th Place At Carpet Capital Collegiate

ROCKY FACE, GA. -
The University of North Carolina men's golf team is in 16th place with a 300 total after the first round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate. East Tennessee State fired a one-under-par 287 to grab the first-round lead.
Carolina was led by freshman Jack Fields, from Southern Pines, as he fired a two-over-par 74 and is tied for 29th place. Two Tar Heels, senior Robert Reisen and sophomore Philip Chauncey, both carded three-over 75s and are deadlocked in 36th place. Riesen is from Pinehurst, N.C. while Chauncey is from Durham. Henry Zaytoun III, a sophomore from Raleigh, posted a four-over 76 and is tied for 50th place while Ryan Holler, a senior from Morehead City, N.C., struggled with an 89 and is in 90th place.
Blayne Barber of Central Florida grabbed hold of the individual lead after firing a four-under 68 on Friday. Four players are one stroke back at 69 in a tie for second place - Auburn's Glenn Northcutt, Tennessee's Chris Paisley, Clemson's Sam Saunders and Mississippi's Jesse Speirs. Tied for sixth place at two-under 70 are Jordan Findlay of East Tennessee State, Stephan Jaeger of Tennessee-Chattanooga and Zach Sucher of Alabama-Birmingham.
In the team race, Central Florida is two strokes behind East Tennessee State with a 289 total while Mississippi is in third place at 290. Clemson and Tennessee-Chattanooga are tied for fourth place at 291 while South Carolina and Tennessee are tied for sixth at 294.
The 54-hole event continues through Sunday at The Farm Golf Club which features a par 72, 7,012-yard layout.
