ROCKY FACE, GA - The University of North Carolina men's golf team is tied for 12th place with Texas Tech in the Carpet Capital Collegiate after the second day of competition. Tennessee-Chattanooga shot a five-under-par 283 on the day to clinch the first place slot.
After tying for 36th in the first round on Friday, sophomore Philip Chauncey of Durham moved into a six-way tie for 12th place by shooting a three-under-par 69. Three Tar Heels, freshman Jack Fields, senior Robert Riesen, and senior Ryan Holler, finished the day at two-over-par 74. Fields, from Southern Pines, N.C., was the Tar Heels' leader on Friday. He dropped down to tie at 35th place on Saturday. Riesen of Pinehurst, N.C., is tied for 46th and Holler of Morehead City, N.C., is tied for 89th. Henry Zaytoun III, a sophomore from Raleigh, struggled on the day but was able to finish tied at 60th.
Clemson's Kyle Stanley took the individual lead on Saturday with an impressive six-under par finish. Four players are tied for second with individual scores of 141 for the combined two days - Georgia Tech's David Dragoo, Tennessee-Chattanooga's Stephan Jaeger, Tennessee's Chris Paisley, and Alabama-Birmingham's Zach Sucher.
As a team, Tennessee-Chattanooga went ahead of Friday's leader East Tennessee State by shooting five-under par for a team total of 574. East Tennessee State is three strokes back at 577, Clemson is in third at 578, and Tennessee is in fourth at 582.
Competition continues at The Farm Golf Club on Sunday. The course is a par 72, 7,012-yard lay-out.
