No. 2 Tar Heels Look To Break Losing Streak At Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. --- North Carolina (17-2, 3-1 ACC) hopes to rebound from its first back-to-back losses in almost five years when the Tar Heels take on Maryland (15-3, 3-1 ACC) Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Comcast Center. Carolina's 66-62 loss at Georgia Tech on Thursday has the Tar Heels on a two-game losing streak for the first time since the end of the 2003-04 season. Maryland is coming off a 96-79 win over Virginia Tech on Jan. 18. Carolina is ranked No. 2 in the AP poll and No. 3 in the coaches' poll. Maryland is ranked No. 12 in the AP poll and No. 13 in the coaches' poll.

MARYLAND SERIES NOTES
North Carolina is 35-29 all-time against Maryland, including an 12-15 mark in College Park.
Carolina won the lone meeting between the two teams in 2008, a 97-86 double overtime thriller in Chapel Hill.
The Tar Heels have won three straight in the series since dropping three of four in 2005 and 2006.
Carolina won the last meeting in College Park, 84-71, on Jan. 28, 2007.
Sunday will mark the seventh consecutive meeting in the series that features both teams in the top 15 of the AP poll. Over that time, Carolina has been ranked no lower than No. 4 in every meeting.
NOTING THE TERRAPINS
Maryland is 15-3 (3-1 in the ACC) on the year following a 96-79 win over Virginia Tech on Jan. 18.
Senior guard Kristi Toliver leads four Terps who average double-figure points with 17.1 per game.
Junior forward Demauria Liles leads Maryland in rebounding with 8.9 boards per contest.
STREAKS
Carolina has lost two in a row for the first time since ending the 2003-04 season with consecutive setbacks to Duke and Middle Tennessee.
UNC has won 17 of its last 18 regular season ACC contests and 23 of 24 over ACC opponents. Prior to Thursday night's loss at Georgia Tech, Carolina's last loss to an ACC team came at Duke on Feb. 25, 2007.
The Tar Heels have not lost consecutive conference games since back-to-back home losses to NC State and Duke in Feb. 2004.
Maryland has won eight of nine, with the lone setback coming at Duke on Jan. 12. The Terps have won all seven home games so far in 2008-09, and 28 in a row at home dating back to the beginning of the 2007-08 campaign.
