No. 10 Tar Heels Open Homestand With Wake Forest

CHAPEL HILL --- North Carolina (17-3, 3-2 ACC) opens a four-game homestand Thursday when the Tar Heels welcome in-state rival Wake Forest (13-4, 1-3 ACC) at 7 p.m. at the Smith Center. Carolina is mired in a three-game losing streak for the first time since January 2002 after falling 77-71 at Maryland on Sunday. Wake Forest is coming off a 64-60 loss to Clemson on Jan. 18. The Demon Deacons were scheduled to play NC State on Monday, but the game was postponed due to the passing of Wolfpack head coach Kay Yow. Carolina is ranked No. 10 in both the AP poll and the coaches' poll. Wake Forest is unranked.

WAKE FOREST SERIES NOTES
North Carolina is 54-12 all-time against Wake Forest, including a 26-3 mark in Chapel Hill.
Carolina has won five straight in the series, including a 76-56 win last year in Winston-Salem.
Wake Forest's last win in the series came during the 2003-04 season. The Demon Deacons defeated the Tar Heels 69-67 in Winston-Salem.
UNC owns two lengthy winning streaks in the series. The Tar Heels won the first 24 meetings from 1974-1987 and then 18 straight from 1992-1999.
NOTING THE DEMON DEACONS
Wake Forest is 13-4 (1-3 in the ACC) on the year following a 64-60 loss to Clemson on Jan. 18.
Senior guard/forward Alex Tchangoue leads the Deacs in scoring with 14.1 points per game. Tchangoue is also Wake's leading rebounder with 6.9 boards per contest.
Senior Corinne Groves and sophomore Brittany Waters also average double-digit points, putting in 13.4 and 12.9 per outing, respectively.
STREAKS
Carolina has lost three games in a row for the first time since consecutive losses to Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and Duke in January 2002.
Prior to last week's losses, the Tar Heels had not lost consecutive conference games since back-to-back home losses to NC State and Duke in Feb. 2004.
Wake Forest has lost four of five since starting the season 12-0.
