The UNC Men's Golf Team Tied For Ninth at Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate

The University of North Carolina men's golf team fired a three-under-par 285 in the second round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges for a 584 total and moved from 13th to a tie for ninth place.
Carolina improved its team score 14 strokes in the second round as three Tar Heels scored under-par rounds. Junior Henry Zaytoun III fired a three-under-par 69 while sophomore Jack Fields carded a two-under 70 and junior Kevin O'Connell shot a one-under 71. Fields, from Southern Pines, N.C., has a three-under 141 total and is tied for fifth place in the individual race. Freshman Michael McGowan, also from Southern Pines, has a 146 total after shooting a 75 on Saturday and is tied for 29th place. Zaytoun, from Raleigh, N.C., has a 150 total and is tied for 51st while Philip Chauncey, a junior from Durham, N.C., stands at 152 in a tie for 56th after posting a 76 in the second round. O'Connell, from Cary, N.C., has a 155 total and is tied for 74th.
Tennessee rallied on the back nine and tied Oregon State, the first-round leader, at nine-under 567. The Volunteers fired an eight-under 280 in the second round while the Beavers carded a seven-under 281. Virginia is in third place at four-under 572, Missouri is fourth at 576, Virginia Tech is fifth at 577 and Wake Forest is sixth with a 580 total.
Diego Velasquez of Oregon State, the first-round leader, fired a two-under 70 in the second round for a 136 total and has a three-stroke lead over Josh Brock of UNC Wilmington and David Holmes of Tennessee who stand at five-under 139. Mike Barry of Oregon State is alone in fourth place with a 140 total. Five players are deadlocked in fifth place at three-under 141 - Carolina's Fields, Virginia Tech's Marshall Bailey, Virginia's Amory Davis and Ben Kohles, and Tennessee's Darren Renwick.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at The Ridges Golf and Country Club which features a par 72, 7,147-yard layout.
