DeGraffenreid Named Lieberman Award Finalist

DETROIT --- The Nancy Lieberman Award committee announced the final nominees for the 10th Annual Nancy Lieberman Award Monday and North Carolina sophomore Cetera DeGraffenreid was one of the 13 finalists. The award is a national project of the Rotary Club of Detroit honoring the nation's top collegiate point guard in women's Division I basketball. The criteria for the award are the floor leadership, play-making and ball-handling skills that personified Hall of Famer, Nancy Lieberman during her career.
DeGraffenreid is in her second season as UNC's starting point guard and leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in assist/turnover ratio at 1.8. The Cullowhee, N.C., product is also in the top five in the league in steals (fourth) and assists (fifth). As a team, Carolina ranks in the top 10 nationally in scoring (second), scoring margin (third), assists (fourth) and steals (fourth), with DeGraffenreid playing a team-high 29.5 minutes per game.
Sportswriters from across the country have determined this final nominee list. They will select three finalists from this list and one winner at the beginning of April 2009. The announcement of the three finalists and one winner will be made during the Final Four Weekend (April 5-7, 2009).
