North Carolina will conduct its annual NFL Pro Football Timing Day Tuesday, March 17 at the Navy Practice Fields. The workouts are closed to the public, but TarHeelBlue.com will be on the scene to bring you live updates throughout the day. Scouts from every NFL team will be in attendance, testing players in a variety of areas, including bench press, vertical and long jumps, 40-yard dash and agility and shuttle drills.
Pro Timing Day is Carolina's version of the NFL Combine that took place in Indianapolis in February. Five Tar Heels were invited to the Combine, including Hakeem Nicks, Brooks Foster, Brandon Tate, Garrett Reynolds and Richard Quinn. Those five will work out again Tuesday along with safety Trimane Goddard, wide receiver Cooter Arnold, punter Terrence Brown, offensive guard Bryon Bishop, offensive guard Calvin Darity, safety Jabir Jones and linebacker Chase Rice.
Former players Durell Mapp and Kendric Williams will also take part in the workouts.
At the February Combine, impressed scouts with a 4.49 in the 40-yard dash. He will not run Tuesday, but will showcase his route running and pass catching abilities. Foster bench pressed 225 pounds 27 times at the combine, which was the highest number of reps by a wide receiver.
The day begins at 9 a.m. with a meeting of all professional scouts with Head Coach Butch Davis, strength and conditioning coordinator Jeff Connors, head athletic trainer Scott Trulock and the UNC video staff. Players and scouts will then move to the weight room for bench press and vertical and standing long jumps.
