Tar Heel Golfers In 10th Place at Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate

The University of North Carolina men's golf team enters Monday's second round of play in 10th place after firing a 15-over par 299 in the first round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. The Tar Heels are 13 strokes behind Augusta State who ended the windy round in first.
Kevin O'Connell fired the lowest round for Carolina on Sunday. O'Connell, a sophomore from Cary, ended the day in 11th place after scoring a one-over-par 72.
Freshman Jack Fields is in a tie for 24th place after one round of play. The Southern Pines native shot a three-over-par 74. Sophomore Henry Zaytoun III carded a five-over 76 and is in a tie for 45th place. Chase MacFarland, a junior from Savannah, Ga., and Robert Riesen, a senior from Pinehurst, N.C., fired six-over-par rounds of 77. MacFarland and Riesen are tied for 53rd place.
Augusta State's Janne Kaske is the individual leader after the first round. Kaske fired five birdies en route to a four-under-par 67. LSU's John Peterson shot a three-under 68 for second place. Three golfers are tied for third.
Augusta State carded a two-over 286 total to end Sunday in first place. The University of Virginia is in second place after shooting a four-over 288. NC State and LSU are tied for third.
The 54-hole tournament is being played at the Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C. continues through Tuesday. The course features a par 71, 7261-yard layout.
