Wallace, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team is in seventh place at the River Landing Intercollegiate after 36 holes of play on Friday. Carolina is 13-over par with a two-round 589 total.
Henry Zaytoun III shot two one-over-par rounds for the Tar Heels and is in a tie for 29th place with a two-over 146 total heading into Saturday's third and final round of play.
Zaytoun, a sophomore from Raleigh and Kevin O'Connell, a sophomore from Cary, fired one-over 73s in the first round. O'Connell carded a four-over 76 in the second round and is in a tie for 41st place with a five-over-par 149 total.
Jack Fields led the Tar Heels in the first round, carding a one-under par 71, but struggled in the second round of play. The freshman finished seven-over-par after firing an eight-over-par second round. He has a two round seven-over 151 total and is currently in a tie for 52nd place.
Robert Riesen, a senior from Pinehurst, was at even par after one round of play. Fields and Riesen both recorded four birdies in the first round. Riesen enters Saturday with a 149 total after firing a five-over 77. He is five-over in the tournament and in a tie for 41st place with O'Connell.
Philip Chauncey shot a 10-over-par 82 in the first round, but salvaged the day with a two-over-par 74 in the second round. He is in 69th place with a 12-over 156 total.
Chase MacFarland, playing as an individual in the tournament, fired a one-over 73 in the second round and is a tie for 52nd place with a seven-over 151 total.
North Carolina State dominated the field on Friday. The Wolfpack is in first place with a two-round 563 total and a seven-stroke lead over Duke. Wake Forest is in third place at two-under par.
NC State's Matt Hill is the individual leader after Friday's play. Hill recorded a 67 in the first round and is six-under par heading into Saturday. Duke's Matthew Pierce is in second place. Pierce is one stroke behind Hill. Three players are tied for third at three-under par.
Play continues through Saturday at the River Landing Intercollegiate. The tournament is hosted by NC State and played at the River Landing Country Club. The course features a par-72, 6942-yard layout.
