CHAPEL HILL, N.C.The University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team returns to action this Sunday when the sixth-ranked Tar Heels meet third-ranked Duke, a team which has not lost in almost two months, in the quarterfinal round of the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship. Game time is 2:00 p.m. at Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md. with the United States Naval Academy serving as the host institution. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU with Dave Ryan doing the play-by-play and Quint Kessenich handling the analysis. The Tar Heels versus Blue Devils matchup will be the second quarterfinal game at Annapolis Sunday as No. 1-ranked Virginia plays host to No. 8-ranked Johns Hopkins in the first game at 12 Noon.
The Tar Heels (12-5) are the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament while the ACC champion Blue Devils (14-3) are seeded third. Seven of the top eight seeds advanced in the first round of the NCAA Championship as No. 1 Virginia, No. 2 Syracuse, No. 3 Duke, No. 4 Princeton, No. 5 Cornell, No. 6 North Carolina and No. 8 Johns Hopkins remain in the field. The only first round upset victim was No. 7 seed Notre Dame which lost at home 7-3 to unseeded Maryland.
The Blue Devils received an at-large bid to the Tournament and only one automatic qualifer (Cornell) remains in the field of eight. UNC was one of nine at-large teams in the field at the start of the tournament and the fifth highest seed of the at-large selections.
