CHAPEL HILL --- The fifth annual Reece Holbrook Golf Classic and Sports Auction presented by Roy and Wanda Williams is set for Oct. 4 and 5, with a portion of this year's proceeds going toward Jessica Breland's treatment for Hodgkin's disease at UNC Hospitals. The auction, which features one-of-a-kind Carolina memorabilia, is set for Oct. 4 at the Peebles Practice Gym, while the golf tournament will be held Oct. 5 at the UNC Finley and Chapel Hill Country Club golf courses.
"Because of the unbelievable support of the athletic department and Coach Williams specifically, we are so happy that we are able to continue on with the Reece Holbrook Golf Classic," said Chad Holbrook. "This event has evolved from a desire to raise a little money to help our family financially when our son Reece was diagnosed with cancer in 2004 to nearing the $1 million mark of funds raised this year to benefit not only our family, but the North Carolina Children's Hospital and other Tar Heels battling this disease."
"Along with the many organizers of our event, we are thrilled we are going to be able to help Jessica Breland in her battle with cancer. Our family was fortunate enough to have the Tar Heel family and Chapel Hill community embrace us and offer so many different forms of support, and we just want to be able to do the same for Jessica during her time of need."
"The Reece Holbrook Golf Classic has been a great event for raising money and awareness for cancer research and treatment, and we are thrilled that a portion of this year's proceeds will go to help Jessica," head women's basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell said. "Like anyone whose life has been affected by cancer, Jessica has already been through so much, and the support of the Carolina family has gone a long way to helping her get through it."
