HONOLULU (AP)--Italee Lucas scored 21 points, Jessica Breland added 19 and Chay Shegog had 18 to help No. 14 North Carolina rout Washington State, 93-55, on Friday in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown quarterfinals.
The Tar Heels trio combined to go 25-of-44 from the field to help the Tar Heels to their fifth straight win in Honolulu. UNC defeated Hawaii in the third-place game in 2002 before winning the tournament in 2006.
Tierra Ruffin-Pratt had 11 points and nine rebounds, and Laura Broomfield added eight points and 10 rebounds for North Carolina (5-0). The Tar Heels held a 62-43 rebounding advantage and outscored the Cougars 62-20 in the paint.
UNC continued its recent run of stifling defense, holding Washington State (0-5) to just 21-of-76 shooting. Only a run of hot shooting to open the second half prevented the Cougars from becoming the Tar Heels' fifth straight opponent to score less than 50 points.
North Carolina started the game on a 9-0 run, and scored the final 13 points of the first half for a 46-22 lead.
Shegog, who made the game's first two baskets and finished one point shy of a career high, also made the final bucket of the half to send UNC to the locker room up 24.
The Tar Heels' largest lead was 91-52 after a layup by Broomfield off an assist from Krista Gross with 1:39 left.
Carly Noyes scored 11 points to lead Washington State, who fell to a ranked opponent for the second straight game.
