Due to dangerous driving conditions along the I-85 corridor between North Carolina and Washington, D.C., North Carolina's gymnastics meet Friday night at Maryland has been postponed. The Tar Heels and Terps will attempt to reschedule the meet sometime in March.
For Carolina that means it will have a three-week break from its last competition at William & Mary on Jan. 24. The Tar Heels are 2-0 after opening the season with wins at the GW Invitational (Jan. 17) and at William & Mary (Jan. 24).
"When situations like these occur, we are always going to do what's in the best interest of our student-athletes," said head coach Derek Galvin. "It's just too much of a risk to drive to Maryland for the meet. We are already looking forward to next week's meet against the Terps in Chapel Hill."
Carolina will play host to Maryland on Feb. 14 in the Tar Heels first home meet in more than a year. Last season, Carolina could not compete in Carmichael Arena as the facility was undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation. The meet on Feb. 14 is the Tar Heels' annual Blue & Pink meet to support the Get REAL & HEEL program.
