After two rounds of play, the University of North Carolina men's golf team is in eighth place at the Seahawk Intercollegiate. Sophomore Matt Raudenbush fired an even-par 72 in the second round, for the team's lowest score thus far in the tournament. Going into Tuesday's final round of play, the Tar Heels trail Augusta State University by 42 strokes.
After the first round of play, Carolina was in 10th place at 23-over par, but improved to eighth place in the 12-team field by the end of play on Monday with four Tar Heels shooting lower scores in the second round than in the first round. Carolina was 12-over par as a team in the second round and goes into Tuesday with a 35-over-par 611 team total.
Raudenbush, a native of Pine Valley, N.J. posted a six-over-par 78 in the first round and shot even par in the second round for a six-over-par 150 total. Raudenbush is currently tied for 24th place.
Junior Henry Zaytoun III will begin play on Tuesday in a tie for 33rd place. The Raleigh, N.C. native fired a 77 in the first round and a 75 in the second round for an eight-over-par 152 total. Freshman Michael McGowan posted a 12-over-par 156 after shooting a 79 in the first round and a 77 in the second round of play. McGowan, a native of Southern Pines, N.C., is currently tied for 46th place.
Juniors Kevin O'Connell and Philip Chauncey are tied for 52nd place after two rounds of action. O'Connell, a native of Cary, N.C., carded an 84 in the first round and a 76 in the second round. Chauncey, a Durham, N.C. native, fired a 77 Monday morning and an 83 in the second round. O'Connell and Chauncey posted a 16-over-par 160 total.
Augusta State leads the field with a seven-under-par 569 total and was the only team to finish under par through two rounds. South Carolina is in second place with a 12-over-par 588 team total and UNC Wilmington is in third place.
Augusta State's Patrick Reed and East Carolina's Jake Colley lead the field at five-under par. Reed's four-under-par 68 in the first round was the lowest score of the day. Augusta State's Henrik Norlander and UNC-Wilmington's Josh Brock are tied for third place at three-under par.
The 54-hole event continues Tuesday on Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall. The course features a par 72, 7,058-yard layout.
