March 17, 2010
For the third straight year, Forbes has named Carolina the most valuable men's basketball team in the country. Despite a rough year on the court, the Tar Heels' value was pegged at $29 million, up 12% from last year. The Forbes listing is unique because it highlights not just victories, but how well-run the program is in terms of keeping expenses under control. The story highlights the benefits the program's profit has for the rest of the University and athletic department.
Other ACC teams on Forbes' list of the top 20 most valuable programs include Duke at 11th and Maryland at 13th.
