Women Placed Third, Men Fourth To Finish ACCs

Dominique Jackson and Donte Nall earned individual conference titles in the women's 800 and the men's high jump, respectively as the University of North Carolina track and field program finished the 2010 ACC Outdoor Championships on Saturday. The women's team brings home third place with 89 points and the men placed fourth with 117.5 points with a total of 12 individual All-ACC outdoor honorees.
This win marks Jackson's second-straight in the 800 at the outdoor conference championships. The junior earned All-ACC honors for her 2:06.16 pace. Tasha Stanley also scored in the 800 running in 2:09.18.
Ashley Verplank earned All-ACC honors for her second-place finish in the 1500. She clocked 4:32.00 and was joined by Brie Felnagle who placed fourth in 4:34.11. Felnagle earned her own All-ACC status for her final season in the 5000, placing second in 16:23.40.
Elizabeth Mott and Christine Johnson scored in the final of the 400 after qualifying on Friday. Mott ran in 54.97 to take sixth and Johnson in 55.48 to follow in seventh.
In hurdles events, LaToya James earned All-ACC honors for a third-place 57.09 in the 400-meter hurdles. James also competed in the 100-meter hurdles final alongside Vanneisha Ivy. Ivy placed fifth in 13.21 and James sixth in 13.26.
Patience Coleman tied for second to score and earn All-ACC standing in the high jump as she cleared 5-11 1/4. Ariel Roberts scored in her first outdoor conference meet taking eighth in the high jump at a height of 5-7. The triple jump saw Briana Hudson score in sixth place for her leap of 42-7.
In women's relays, the 4x400 relay, consisting of Johnson, Mott, Stanley and James, ran in 3:39.42 to place third. Malai Walker, Ivy, Johnson and Tyler Ford earned fifth for their 4x100-meter final in 45.77.
Donte Nall capped the men's competition with a first-place title in the high jump, his fourth conference championship for both indoor and outdoor season in the event. Nall earned All-ACC honors along with the title nod for clearing 6-11 3/4.
In the triple jump, Austin Davis placed second leaping 53-2 1/4 for All-ACC honors. Kenith Roseman also scored in the triple jump, leaping 49-5 for eighth. Parker Smith and Scott Houston each scored in the pole vault, Smith tying for fourth at 16-10 3/4 and Houston seeding seventh at 16-6 3/4.
Adam Cunningham scored twice in distance finals to finish the conference championships. He earned All-ACC honors for his second-place finish in the 5000 at 14:27.09. Cunningham also placed seventh in the 1500, running 4:01.25.
Jheranie Boyd dashed 10.51 to place sixth in the 100. Boyd went on to run with Kelvin Hardesty, Reynaldo Radlin and Hunter Furr in the 4x100-meter relay which placed fourth in 41.25.
Clayton Parros and Charles Cox earned All-ACC honors as they went two-three in the 400 running 46.31 and 46.35, respectively. Ian Williamson also scored in the 400 running 48.55 to place seventh.
Cox and Parros also scored alongside Hardesty in the 200 taking fourth, fifth and sixth. Cox sprinted 20.97, Parros 21.29 and Hardesty 21.42. Cox, Williamson, Hardesty and Parros concluded the day by running the 4x400-meter relay, taking second place in 3:08.92.
With the conclusion of the ACC Outdoor Championships, the Tar Heels continue their sights on the NCAA National Championships with four more meets to earn top marks to receive bids to the national stage. Carolina next heads to the legendary Penn Relays Thursday, April 22nd through Saturday, April 24th.
