BALTIMORE, MD. - Under Armour®, Inc. and Corrigan Sports Enterprises, Inc. announced Monday the selection of the nation's top boys and girls high school seniors to the prestigious All-America lacrosse rosters. The list includes eight men's student-athletes who will enroll with the men's lacrosse program at the University of North Carolina in August 2010. The fifth annual Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic takes place on Saturday, July 3rd at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Md.
The University of North Carolina men's program leads the nation as eight of its recruits from the same graduating class were named All Americas. The Atlantic Coast Conference has a total of 20 players (UNC 8, MD 6, Duke 3, UVa 3) on the this year's high school All-America boys roster. UNC's eight selections lead the nation this year and is just one short of the Under Armour program's record of nine selections by the University of Virginia in 2007.
One future Tar Heel will play for the North Team, while seven will compete on the South squad.
Attackman Nicky Galasso of West Islip, N.Y. (West Islip High School) will play for the North Team. Playing for the South Team will be midfielder Will Campbell of Columbus, Ohio (Worthington Kilbourne High School); attackman Pat Foster of Lutherville, Md. (Boys Latin High School); midfielder R.G. Keenan of Perry Hall, Md. (Boys Latin High School); midfielder T.J. Kemp of Chattanooga, Tenn. (McCallie School); midfielder Mark McNeill of West River, Md. (St. Mary's High School); goalkeeper Andrew O'Connell of Aston, Pa. (Malvern Prep); and defenseman Jordan Smith of Winston-Salem, N.C. (Forsyth Country Day School). Kemp also becomes the first player from the state of Tennessee to be named an All-America.
A full weekend of events is scheduled, highlighted by the All-America boys showcase, live on ESPNU at 8 p.m. The girls face off at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday as well.
The All-Americas are selected by a panel of lacrosse experts at Inside Lacrosse Magazine. The year-long process includes input from college and high school coaches from across the country, as well as nominations from the general public.
For the second consecutive year, the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic features an expanded eight-region underclassmen event with boys and girls teams from Baltimore, Long Island, New Jersey, Midwest, New England, Philadelphia, Upstate NY and Washington, D.C. The two-day underclassmen tournament (July 3rd-4th) culminates with the girls and boys finals at 3:30 p.m. on the fields surrounding Unitas Stadium.
