Tar Heel Golfers Lose At North & South Amateur

PINEHURST, N.C. -
University of North Carolina golfers Jack Fields and Robert Riesen both lost in the second round of match play at the 110th North and South Amateur being played at Pinehurst #2.
Fields, a rising junior from nearby Southern Pines, lost to Josh Eure, from Crofton, Md., 4 and 2. Fields lost the second and third holes and was never able to rebound. Riesen, a native of Pinehurst who played on the 2006-2009 golf teams, lost to Joseph Bramlett, of Saratoga, Calif., in 20 holes. Riesen was down two going into the 16th hole, but then won the 16th and 17th holes to square the match. The match remained all square at the end of regulation and Bramlett won the match on the second playoff hole.
Match play in the prestigious event continues through Saturday at Pinehurst #2 which features a par 71, 7,350-yard layout. The third round will be played Thursday afternoon with the quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Friday and the 36-hole final match will be played Saturday.
